Every two weeks, Anna-mary Geist and her family shop, bake, and deliver meals to neighbors through Lasagna Love. In Newbury, Massachusetts, a recipe learned from her late Italian mother has found a continuing purpose.
Geist told The Local News that preparing lasagna helps her feel close to her mother. Sharing the work with her daughters and son lets her pass along both the recipe and the practice of serving others.
Her daughter Emily, 17, is carrying that tradition into school. As reported on October 23, she was launching a Lasagna Love volunteer club at the Governor’s Academy in nearby Byfield.
The effort comes as local volunteers face growing demand. Regional leaders reported that the average wait for a delivery in Essex County had reached 30 days in 2026.
Lasagna Love welcomes volunteer cooks and offers ways to help fund their meals. For Geist’s family, that work connects generations: a mother’s recipe, her daughter’s care, and grandchildren finding their own ways to share it.
