Their first attempts at flight ended in the sea. For two young griffon vultures in Sardinia, help arrived in time.

Claudio Nuvoli rescued one bird on August 2 and the other on September 18, after local tour operator Carlo Fresu called for assistance, according to the Vulture Conservation Foundation.

The birds recovered at the Forestas Wildlife Recovery Centre in Bonassai. Named Bollo and Bentul, they were later released in an area already used by other griffon vultures, with Nuvoli among those present.

Both now carry identification rings and GPS transmitters. Their return to the wild is a milestone; tracking will help conservationists follow what comes next.
