A donated book can have another chapter: finding a new reader while helping support the library around it.
In Flossmoor, Illinois, the Friends of the Flossmoor Library runs an ongoing sale of donated books and other materials. The independent nonprofit raises funds for equipment and programs and assists library staff with events and children’s activities.
On October 19, Mayor Michelle Nelson recognized that work at a Village Board meeting, presenting a proclamation to Mary Beth Beno of the Friends. The recognition honored the group’s fundraising, volunteering, and continued support of library services.
The contributions reach beyond the book sale. The library lists children’s summer reading T-shirts and equipment among the Friends’ projects, while local reporting highlights support for additional programming throughout the year.
It is patient, practical work: giving books another home and helping a familiar public place offer more to the people who use it.
