A lost or damaged library item can leave an unwelcome charge on someone’s account. In Santa Barbara, patrons now have another way to resolve eligible fees: bring food for local neighbors.

Through December 24, the public library’s Food for Fees drive offers forgiveness for one lost or damaged item valued at up to $35 for every five qualifying food items donated. Library of Things items are excluded.

Donations will benefit Unity Shoppe, People’s Pantry, and FARO Center. Food must be shelf-stable, unopened, undamaged, and within its expiration date; glass containers are not accepted. The annual program connects a return to library services with a useful contribution to someone else’s pantry.
